There are tuatuas, paua, mussels and fishing spots in the area, surfcasting is possible at both ends of the beach. Crayfish (by snorkel) and scallops (by scuba diving) spots are within 20 minutes There are walks of historic interest and scenic places in the district. There are no shops in Wharekaho, the nearest being Whitianga.
